To close the festivities, PJ Olsson’s Rock Camp Band and Superior School of Dance students performed in front of hundreds crammed into the street. The band kicked off with an upbeat piece with many in the crowd clapping along and bobbing their heads. After each song, the audience offered cheers and thunderous applause.
Olsson also performed solo songs and later introduced two solo songs written and performed by Rock Camp members Tia Swanson and Caitlin Polakowski.
“These are the first songs that these girls have ever written and they’re about to sing it in front of you, an extraordinarily large crowd, so they can feel it,” he announced.
Olsson thanked many people who made the Rock Camp possible, and apologized to the band members’ parents for the practices that ran from 5 to 8 p.m.
“I’m so sorry I screwed up your dinner plans for three straight weeks,” he said.
Olsson said art and music are important for young people’s personal development and that the camp was a great experience.
“I am so proud of them and they’ve changed my life in three weeks,” he said.

TONIGHT: TV6 News Coming to Rock Camp

Jeni Jewell from TV6 News is stopping by our rehearsal this evening with her camera to do a story on Rock Camp. Students – tonight would be a great night to wear your rock camp shirts to rehearsal. Parents – you are welcome to swing by and hang out, maybe even take an opportunity with Jeni to talk about your impressions of the camp. Hopefully the news story will get even more people interested in coming to the final show. When it comes to performing live, the larger the audience the better! We’re expecting Jeni sometime between 6 and 7pm.
