Skatepark Fundraiser June 20th
Posted in Rock Camp on June 16, 2009 by Todd Brassard
The Level 2 Skatepark (located in the Dee Stadium) was started by a group of kids ranging from 11-19 years old, ten years ago. We did the fund raising , the construction, and ran it when it was ready.
Never would I have thought that it would have come to last this long. We have been hosting bands here from the start it’s a big part of how we raised money to start it and keeps us able to pay rent. Every local band that plays always lets the park keep the money we would pay them, knowing it will help keep this going.
A big part of why we wanted to start the skatepark was to give kids a place where they could hang out have fun and stay away from some other things they could be doing. We have a good record of problem free shows, and hope it stays this way. For a small town we have an amazing scene of people that come and support local and traveling bands, and have made some good friends along the way with some of the bands.
Having people give their time for free, for this many years means a lot to me and the people that have been here from the beginning.
All the bands playing for this show are local. So please come and check this show out and see what we have created over the years.
- Jeff “King” Frenette
P.S. This show is also going to help us raise the money we need to get a new audio mixing board so we can keep having shows, and keep on with trying to do something positve for the kids (and the kids at heart).
